Internally, the Exclusive brews with a powerful 1350 watt boiler and a 15 bar pump and grinds with an integrated silent grinder. The brew unit allows you to prepare up to two coffee drinks simultaneously using either whole beans or pre-ground coffee via the bypass doser. The unit is also fully removable for easy cleaning. The water reservoir is removable and holds 48oz or roughly 1.4 liters and can be fitted with a water filter, while the bean hopper can hold up to 8.82oz of whole bean coffee. The drip tray is easy to remove and to clean and the machine will alert you to empty the grounds bin after 14 drinks have been made or 72 hours have passed since it was last emptied.

Maintenance of the machine is largely handled through a number of automatic alerts and rinsing functions. Both the brew spouts and the "Autocappuccino" systems feature rinsing functions to keep them clean and in working order. Both of the frothing carafes can be dismantled for cleaning in the dishwasher and feature integrated cleaning functions when attached to your machine. With regards to more routine maintenance, the machine features an automatic descaling cycle that allows you to program your water hardness and will alert you when the time has come to decalcify your machine. For the energy conscious, DeLonghi has several energy saving features including a new standby function as well as a power switch that can shut the machine down entirely for zero energy consumption.
